  1. “For the Love of Cheese!”

Tonda HeadshotThere aren’t many people who sign their emails and letters, “For the love of cheese!” That’s why we are thrilled to announce that one of the most passionate cheesemongers in town is headed to East End Market! Tonda Corrente is the cheese lady, and she will be opening the appropriately named La Femme Du Fromage in just a couple of months.

Tonda is a self-taught Chef and the Culinary Creator/Owner of Tonda’s Kitchen, a catering company committed to local and organic products. Her passion for outstanding food, great atmosphere and fine wines ultimately led her to an undeniable interest in artisan cheeses. Tonda has worked all over Central Florida hosting cheese pairing classes at venues such as The Wine Room, Citrus Restaurant, Windermere Country Club, OLV Wine Bar and Bistro, The Imperial at Washburn Imports and the nationally recognized beer parlor, Redlight Redlight. PastedGraphic-1

With all of her experience, Tonda explains, “I have come across so many outstanding cheeses in my years hosting pairing classes. Now, I can have a spot to allow people to come to me! Unlike the corner to corner specialty shops that can be found in every metropolitan city, there hasn’t been a cheese shop dedicated to artisan and farmstead cheeses here in Orlando. It’s time to change that!”

Screen shot 2013-03-28 at 11.58.59 AMOver the years, Tonda has entertained great cheese makers and cheesemongers, including David Gremmels, cheese maker for Rogue Creamery and President of the American Cheese Society, as well as Max McCalman, America’s first restaurant-based Maître Fromager and Dean and Director of Affinage at the Artisanal Premium Cheese Center.

Find out why la femme is so fascinated with fromage at one of Tonda’s cheese pairing classes, or try some of her recipes or pairings at home. Then, be sure to come learn more at her shop around June!

  2. The First in a Series of Updates from Our Online Television Partner

In January, we began “The Market Minute,” our weekly series of short videos, giving you an insider’s look at the local food scene. To keep you updated on East End Market’s development, we have partnered with Orlando LIVE for a monthly video series on the building’s progress and our upcoming events.

In this series, John Rife, East End Market’s founder and developer, talks about the unique artisan culture the Market will support by creating an engaging and thought-provoking space. You’ll also get a sneak peek inside the space and learn how we are re-adapting the building for our own use. Click the video above to hear more!
